WE has a new team member! Stefan Winterboer has joined the SafariLIVE team this past week, and has already been in the driver’s seat at some exciting sightings.

Stefan is often described as one of the best in the business when it comes to trails guiding. Born in Pretoria, South Africa, from a young age Stefan would spend much of his time in the bush with his father. This time in the bush left him with many ‘feel-good’ memories and thus spurred him on to become a professional in the Safari and Tourism industry. Once Stefan started, he knew that this is what he was born to do.

Having achieved many qualifications in trails guiding, Stefan has well over 6000 hours of experience guiding and interpreting both the natural environment as well as animal behaviour. As a result he has managed and trained various other trails guides and trackers to be as competent and well informed as he is.
He has spent the vast majority of his adult life as an expert trails guide in the African bush for many exclusive and premiere bush lodges, both locally in South Africa and in other African countries.
Starting as a junior field guide, in 1999, at SabiSabi Private Game Reserve he grew from strength to strength until he left in 2006.  In 2007 he started work at Singita Private Game Reserves. However, his true passion for the bush and wildlife lead him to start his own business named Guides and Trackers Direct Pty (Ltd).
Stefan often describes his business as one of the things that’s brought him the most joy and fulfillment in his extensive career. Being an entrepreneur allowed him to explore safari videography as well as producing a number of training DVDs and posters, which have collectively sold over 2000 copies. This has been applauded as a ‘landmark’ in the development of field guides within the Safari industry.
With all his experience and expert knowledge in trails guiding and across all facets of the Safari and Tourist industry within Africa, Stefan is certainly considered as one of South Africa’s best Trails Guides.
