SABI SANDS

Feb 12
Thandi was lying in a thicket. Her cub was her usual playful self, bounding around and attacking Thandi while Thandi stayed flat. After sometime, Thandi rose and crossed back into Djuma, where she began hunting. Unfortunately, she disappeared from sight soon after she began her hunt.

Feb 13
Hosana was found on the move, stalking through the bush. He soon pounced on a francolin but didn’t feed on the captured bird. He moved off, his build looking fuller, giving him an older look. He soon found a termite mound and went flat on it for a while before moving off again.

Feb 11
Hukumuri was found in the bush with a daiker kill. He was flat for a while before something seemed to grab his attention and he moved off into the bush. But he settled down a moment later. He then grabbed his kill and pulled it out into the open. He seemed to want to jump into a tree but decided against it, moving instead into a pan with the kill and eventually vanishing from sight.

Feb 14
We haven’t seen Thamba is quite a while, so what a Valentine’s day surprise to find him nonchalantly on a termite mound, resting in the sun’s rays. He lay there for a while before eventually rising and continuing off into the brush.

Feb 16
It seems to be the week for rarely seen leopards! Xidulu, formerly the Ingrid Dam Young Female, was found resting in a tree, with a kill. She wasn’t feeding but simply rested, watching the world around her.
MAASAI MARA
SAUSAGE TREE PRIDE

Feb 14
The Sausage Tree Pride was found in the midst of an astounding encounter: swarming over an old buffalo and attempting to bring it down. The buffalo struggled to get loose while the lionesses attempted to take advantage of its weak-points such as biting into its flank and backside. Eventually, the buffalo succumbed, falling to the ground and the pride began to feast. The carcass will keep them sustained for a while due to the buffalo’s massive size.
Feb 15
In the morning, the pride was still with their buffalo carcass. A lioness of the pride hiding in the grass sprang out at a group of guinea fowl, scaring the flock of birds into a nearby tree.
OLOOLOLO PRIDE

Feb 13
The Oloololo pride was found feasting on a warthog carcass, the kill appearing to be fresh. They continued to eat and were still at it when we left them.
Feb 14
The pride was seen hunkered down in the long grass, eyeing a nearby buffalo. They continued to watch the buffalo, but ultimately didn’t act, choosing instead to remain hunkered down in the grass.
